About the Program

In 2011, the University of Michigan joined in a collaborative partnership with the University of California to offer postdoctoral fellowship opportunities at the University of Michigan. In this program, the University of Michigan now offers postdoctoral research fellowships coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development, and academic networking opportunities. Eligibility for the fellowship may vary by year.

For 2025-26, the University welcomes applications from potential fellows who aim to work with faculty mentors in the following schools and colleges:

  • School of Dentistry
  • School for the Environment and Sustainability
  • School of Information
  • School of Nursing
  • School of Social Work

The University of Michigan views these postdoctoral fellowships as providing an exceptional opportunity to recruit potential new faculty to tenure-track positions at the University by offering either a postdoc alone or a combined postdoc and tenure track faculty appointment to follow.

The University seeks applicants whose research, teaching, and service will, as determined by the University of Michigan and in accordance with law, contribute to the core values of the University of Michigan, and to equal opportunity in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with the potential to bring to their research and undergraduate teaching the critical perspective that comes from their non-traditional educational background or understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education. Candidates will be evaluated on fit with current needs and strengths of the institution and future funding possibilities.
